The Montevallo Farmers Market, created by the Montevallo Chamber of Commerce, is an event in downtown Montevallo that includes farmers and local food vendors that sell a variety of fruits and vegetables. You can buy peaches, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, honey, bread, okra, peas, squash, tomatoes, cucumbers and anything that the farmers bring that is in season and ready to be picked and sold. The market is free and open to the public.  The farmers individually sell whatever they have grown that is in season. A few questions I asked where if the food was all organic or not and what their water source was. One farmer said he waters his garden by well water and that his food is not organic but still very healthy, while another farmer also waters his garden by well water but tries to keep his garden as close to organic as possible.

The Farmers Market is held in the parking lot of the First Baptist Church on Middle Street. They are open every Monday 3pm-6pm starting June 6, 2011 through August 8, 2011 (except July 4). The market also has a Facebook page  http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/Montevallo-Farmers-Market/101348569908444 that everyone can see and join. The market also has live bands play for entertainment while you shop. Overall, the Montevallo Farmers Market is a great place to come and get fruits and veggies from local farmers. So come down and visit the market to help support our local farmers and get tasty food!
